This year we're relaunching a special summer campaign to support local children and young people impacted by domestic abuse.
Save Their Summer previously ran in 2021 and raised over £3,000 for children supported by our Honeycomb Group domestic abuse specialists, Glow.
This year, the campaign is back to create even more happy memories over the six-week holidays and beyond.
Money raised will enable young people and their families to enjoy all of the ‘normal’ summer memories that many of us will take for granted, such as cinema trips, picnics in the park, days out and family meals.
The campaign invites you to ‘buy a gift experience’ - from cinema tickets and bowling trips to Friday night takeaways.
With many of the children and young people Glow supports never having experienced these simple joys, even a small donation can make a big difference.
- £5 would pay for a cinema ticket for a child to visit the cinema for the first time
- £10 would pay for entry to a local wildlife centre
- £20 would pay for a meal out for a mum and her two young children
Sarah Buckley, Children and Young People’s Service Manager, explained more: “It’s easy to take these things for granted - a trip to the beach, grabbing an ice cream, even a meal out. For the children we work with, these are rare experiences.
“This summer we want to bring them some of that ‘normality’ – that sadly for them isn’t normal at all. We want to give them something to look forward to this summer, something they’ll remember - a happy memory to hold onto as they navigate some really uncertain times.”
Living with domestic abuse can have long-lasting impacts on children’s mental health, relationships and confidence. Glow’s specialist team works with young people in schools, the community and in refuge settings to help them rebuild trust, explore emotions and understand healthy relationships.
Sarah continued: “The children we support have already faced more than most do in a lifetime. After the success of our first Save Their Summer campaign in 2021, we’re bringing it back with bigger goals. Every donation helps rewrite their story.”
